St. James the Elder Ä. (Sinsheim)
The catholic church St. Jakobus d. Ä. in Sinsheim in the Rhine-Neckar district in northern Baden-Württemberg was consecrated in 1966.
history
Sinsheim has been predominantly Protestant in the Electoral Palatinate since the Reformation . The Catholic parish, which has existed again since the 17th century, initially continued to belong to the Diocese of Speyer , from 1801 to the Dalberg administration and then to the General Vicariate of Bruchsal, before becoming part of the newly founded Archdiocese of Freiburg in 1821/27 . The parish was assigned to the Waibstadt deanery. As a church, the Sinsheimer Catholics were assigned the choir of the Sinsheimer Stadtkirche when the Palatinate church was divided in 1705 , which the Catholic community renewed from 1785 to 1788. For a long time, the city church was used simultaneously until the Catholic community grew enormously due to the influx of displaced people and refugees after the Second World War. In 1964 the foundation stone for the Church of St. Jakobus d. Ä. placed. The patronage was taken over from the town church. The church was founded on June 12, 1966 consecrated and on 22 November 1967 consecrated .
After the dissolution of the Waibstadt deanery in 1976, the parishes in the Sinsheim city area were assigned to the Kraichgau deanery . Today this includes 21 parishes. Most of the Catholics in the city are looked after by the Sinsheim pastoral care unit, which includes the St. Jakobus parish of Sinsheim with Dühren and Hoffenheim as well as the parish of St. Peter Steinsfurt with rows and Rohrbach.

A four-bell ring was originally planned for the church, which was then extended to a five-bell ring for sound reasons during its construction. The bell of the Mother of God strikes f ', is 112.5 cm in diameter and weighs 925 kg. The Bernhardus bell has the strike tone g ', a diameter of 104.8 cm and a weight of 777 kg. The James bell has the striking note b ', a diameter of 92.4 cm and a weight of 534 kg. The Benedictine bell has the strike tone d '', a diameter of 80.5 cm and a weight of 386 kg.
