The Frankenbacher Johanneskirche

The St. Johannes Church is a Catholic church in the Heilbronn district of Frankenbach , which was built as a branch church of the Böckingen Kilian Church from 1972 and was consecrated on December 22, 1974.

history

As an imperial town, Frankenbach, like the imperial city of Heilbronn, had been shaped by Protestants since the Reformation. A large number of Catholics only settled with the displaced persons after the Second World War. In 1970 the parishioners had been collecting money for a church building for years and the Stuttgart architect Jörg Herkommer was commissioned to design a church. In 1972 construction began. At the topping-out ceremony on June 6, 1973, the namesake Johannes was announced. On December 22nd, 1974, Bishop Anton Herre consecrated the church.

The church belongs to the Catholic parish Heilig Kreuz, one of the eight parishes of the Catholic Church Heilbronn. The parish includes the northern part of Böckingen with the Holy Cross Church in Böckinger Kreuzgrund, which was inaugurated on December 8, 1991, and Frankenbach with the St. John's Church inaugurated in 1974.

description

It is a sacred building made of concrete with an octagon and a terrace. In addition to the actual church space, the building complex also includes a community hall, a stage, kitchen rooms and youth rooms.
