The church

The Protestant village church of St. Johannes is located in the Metebach district of the Hörsel rural community in the Gotha district in Thuringia .

history

The village church was built in the Romanesque style in 1259 - probably on a former pagan hill. In 1712 the church was rebuilt by the local mayor at his own expense, who left it with a legacy of 500 Reichstalers. The interest on this capital was distributed to the poor every Christmas.

At that time, the interior was redesigned with red chalk paintings in the style of peasant baroque and a star-studded wooden barrel vault .

The organ was newly purchased in 1834. In the church tower hang two bells , one with the year 1416th
