The church

The Protestant village church of St. Johannes Baptista is in Utzberg in the Weimarer Land district in Thuringia . The parish belongs to the parish association Niederzimmer in the parish of Weimar of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

location

The village church is located on the slightly elevated northern edge of the village. Around them is the cemetery with a surrounding wall.

history

The church was built in the 15th century and served as a fortified church for the farmers. Constant rebuilding and subsequent renovation led to today's picture.

Furnishing

The nave is characterized by a colorful pulpit altar from 1725. Two life-size figures flank the pulpit - the namesake John the Baptist with a lamb on one side, the prophet Moses with the tablets of the law on the other. Embedded in the foliage above you can see the half-figure God the Father with the globe in his hand. Then there are carved figures of the twelve apostles .
