from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Church of St. Johannes Evangelist was the Catholic church in Altgarbsen , a district of Garbsen in the Hanover region in Lower Saxony . Most recently the church belonged to the parish of St. Raphael with its seat in the Garbsen district of Auf der Horst , in the dean's office of Hanover-North / West of the diocese of Hildesheim . The church was named after St. John the Evangelist and was located at Mozartstraße 18. Today, St. Raphael is the closest Catholic church in the Auf der Horst district, just under two kilometers away .

history

In 1967/68 the church was built in the Pottbergsviertel. The foundation stone was laid by Dechant Otto Bank on October 22, 1967 , and her consecration on May 23, 1968 . Before that, a Catholic service was held in a barrack set up as an emergency church on the nearby Pottbergsweg.

On March 9, 2007 the church was profaned by Bishop Norbert Trelle and demolished in October of the same year. The Heimatwerk Hannover eG housing association built a senior citizens' residential complex with 25 apartments on the property between 2011 and 2013.

Architecture and equipment

The church was built as a prefabricated church with a tower and was about 53 meters above sea level . After the profanation, her organ came to the Evangelical Lutheran Willehadi Church in the neighboring district of Auf der Horst , where it was inaugurated again on October 31, 2007. In July 2013, however, it was destroyed in a fire in the Willehadi Church.
