The church

The village church of St. John the Baptist is in the Kolba part of the municipality of Oppurg in the Saale-Orla district in Thuringia .

history

The previous church was renovated around 1500. In 1547 Kolba was a parish. 1709 is reported of a dilapidated church , which was renovated 1710-1711. The portal in the gable of the nave is dated 1710.

A strong tower with a Romanesque doorway leads to the floor. The bronze bell dates from 1445. The belfry was designed for three bells.

In 1886 the church was restored at great expense. In the 20th century, the nave was simply painted in blue, white and gold. Under the triumphal arch is the altar block with a simple pulpit . A gallery fills the room on which the organ from 1898 stands in the western section . There were two patron saints .
