Andrea Blackett ( Andrea Melissa Blackett ; born January 24, 1976 in the London Borough of Bromley , United Kingdom ) is a former Barbadian hurdler who specialized in the 400-meter distance . Because of her sprint strength , she was also used in the 4 x 400 meter relay .

In 1997 she won the Central America and Caribbean Championships over 400 m hurdles and won bronze over 100 m hurdles . At the World Athletics Championships in Athens , she was eighth. 1998 followed a silver medal at the Central America and Caribbean Games in Maracaibo Gold at the Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur . The following year, she defended her title at the Central American and Caribbean Championships. At the Pan American Games in 1999 in Winnipeg she won silver over 400 meters and bronze in the 4-by-400-meter relay; at the World Cup in Seville she was fourth.

In 2000 she reached the semifinals at the Olympic Games in Sydney over 400 m hurdles and was eliminated from the 4-by-400-meter relay in the preliminary stages. At the 2001 World Cup in Edmonton, she did not get past the first round.

In 2003 she won bronze at the Central American and Caribbean Championships and the Pan American Games in Santo Domingo and was sixth at the World Championships in Paris / Saint-Denis . At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, she failed in the first round.

In 2005 she won silver at the Central American and Caribbean Championships and was sixth at the World Championships in Helsinki , in 2007 she was fifth at the Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro and was eliminated at the World Cup in Osaka in the preliminary stages.

Andrea Blackett is an assistant trainer at her alma mater, Rice University .
