St. John the Baptist (Holzhausen)
The Catholic parish church of St. John the Baptist is a listed church building in the Oberdorf in Holzhausen , a district of Nieheim in the Höxter district ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).
History and architecture
The simple two-aisled hall church made of plastered quarry stone with a rectangular choir and a north-facing sacristy is crowned with a roof turret. The single-nave core building from the 12th and 13th centuries was converted into a hall church with a cove ceiling in 1676 , following a name above the side portal . A side aisle was added in 1955. In the same year the choir arch was removed and new ceilings were put in. The longitudinally rectangular west building with a profiled base is structured by a step portal. In the cross-vaulted tower hall, a wall staircase leads upwards.
Furnishing
- There are medieval spoils in the tower hall . A tympanum depicting St. Johannes d. T., a round arch frieze with mask.
- The font from the beginning of the 13th century has the shape of a cup.
- The wooden figure of St. Johannes d. T. is a work from around 1700.
- Christ crucified was carved in the 18th century.
- The altar mosaic Christ, the Risen One was created in 1958 by Fred Eckersdorf from Meschede.
