Sankt Johannis is the Protestant church in the village of Osmarsleben in the town of Güsten in Saxony-Anhalt .

architecture

The hall church goes back to a previous building built in the late Romanesque style, which was partly included in the current building. The Romanesque building consisted of a rectangular nave and a church tower with a square floor plan.

On the west side of the current building there is a church tower integrated into the nave, which is covered by an eight-sided pointed spire. There is a semicircular apse on the east side of the nave . The eastern part of the church and the apse were built in 1893. The width of the historic nave was retained.

The portal to the church is on the south side and is designed as a round arch. Two pillars have also been preserved here. The column to the east has a mask capital and is octagonal, the column on the west side has a twisted shaft and a palmette capital .

There is also plastered on the south side of the church bricks built sacristy .

A bronze bell from 1618 is remarkable.

Current usage

When new sound hatches were installed in the church tower in May 2006, damage was found to the bell and roof structure in the tower, which is attributed to the years of penetration of moisture and pigeon droppings. The ringing of bells was then stopped. In September 2006 the church was blocked. In the literature, the church was previously referred to as the former church and camp in 1999 .
