History and architecture

Due to the increased immigration of Catholics into the previously evangelical region of the Mansfeld mountain range in the 19th century, the desire for new Catholic churches soon arose. These were not only built in cities, but also partly in villages. At that time the area belonged to the Archdiocese of Paderborn and its cathedral and diocesan master builder Arnold Güldenpfennig also designed the church of Klostermansfeld, construction of which began in 1892 and was completed in 1893. A brick building with side aisles and a three-story tower, which is typical for the architect, was built on the north side and is 30 meters high. The once slate roof has now been replaced by beaver tails.

On June 1, 1894, the consecration took place by Bishop Hubert Theophil Simar , who had consecrated the newly built Catholic Church of Hettstedt the day before . On January 1, 1919, the vicariate became a branch church, which was elevated to a parish church on October 6, 1948, which was also officially recognized a month and a half later. With the resurrection of the Magdeburg diocese , the church came to this and on January 28, 2007 it was incorporated into the community association of Mansfelder Land. Towards the end of 2010, the church for the parish of St. Georg Hettstedt was struck.

The exterior is clearly neo-Gothic , with the windows in particular catching the eye. These are inspired by the early Gothic style at the choir, but feature modern paintings. There are slightly smaller windows on the ship, five on the east side and only four on the west side. It is typical of Güldenpfennig churches that the slightly retracted bell tower is flanked by a stair tower.

Interior and outfit

The interior was simply designed with a pointed barrel. The aisles are separated from the nave by round arcades on rectangular pillars. The historicizing interior was financed with donations.
