history

Only since the Second World War has a small Catholic community existed in Bad Liebenstein due to the large number of expellees who had moved there, and it set up a chapel in the former Catholic sanatorium Maria Regina .

The building of our own house of God could only be realized after the fall of the Wall. To this end, an architects' competition was carried out in 1997, which was won by the Alt-Britz architects from Saarbrücken . The consecration of the church took place on 9 July 2000. Since 2008, the Church of St. Kilian from union with the Catholic parish of St. Andrew in Bad Salzungen their daughter church . It shares its pastor with the parish church in Bad Salzungen ; he is supported by a clinic chaplain who is responsible for the rehabilitation clinics. Funerals were performed in the three well-known Liebensteiner cemeteries, which Evangelicals and Catholics used and use together.

Building

The church was designed by the Saarbrücken architect Peter Alt . It is a modern building and offers space for more than 250 visitors.

The externally simple, towerless building is characterized by a distinctive cube-shaped window attachment with colored glass panes, which bathes the interior in a golden-warm light tone.
The square building floor plan is based on the idea of heavenly Jerusalem from the Revelation of John, which is also reflected in many components and furnishings by a stylized cross formed from four squares.

The debates held with the church council and the community about the design of the building were necessary and helpful, as the architecture does not correspond to traditional ideas of a church. The pews, tables and chairs were created by the local joinery Fleischer GbR.

The position of the benches along the altar alone creates another common feature during the service , said Horst Kaspar , the first pastor of the church .

The acceptance of this modern building in the community is now available.
