The Catholic Church of St. Lambertus is a late Gothic brick church in Waldfeucht in the Heinsberg district in North Rhine-Westphalia . It belongs to the parish of St. Lambertus Waldfeucht in the community of the parishes of Heinsberg ( Diocese of Aachen ).

History and architecture

The St. Lambertus Church is a four-bay late Gothic basilica with a two-bay choir that ends in a four-sided end. It was built around the end of the 15th century to the 16th century. A two-bay sacristy is built on the north side , and a four-storey west tower with a stair tower on the south side is in the west. A restoration was carried out by Lambert von Fisenne in the years 1883–1889, with all changes from the 18th century being reversed. During the Second World War , the tower and the roofs as well as part of the vaults were destroyed; the damage was repaired by 1962.

The church has a uniform and atmospheric interior with cross vaults, some of which rest on figural consoles. Slender three-part tracery windows brighten the interior.

Furnishing

The neo-Gothic interior was created in 1882 according to plans by Heinrich Wiethase . In addition, numerous individual pieces from an earlier period have been preserved. The bluestone font dates from 1651. A wooden lectern was created in the middle of the 16th century. Two brass wall sconces date from the 15th / 16th centuries. Century. A baroque painting from the 18th century shows the disciples in Emmaus .

Numerous wooden sculptures, mostly from the 15th and 16th centuries, have also been preserved:

  • Saint Lambertus , of Maasland origin from around 1510/20, attributed to the master of Elsloo ,
  • Saint Barbara , of Lower Rhine-Maasland origin from around 1480/90,
  • Saint George on horseback as a dragon slayer, Maasland, from around 1500,
  • Crucifix from a triumphal cross group , Maasland origin, from the workshop of the master of Elsloo, with assistance figures from the beginning of the 20th century on a cross decorated with tracery
  • two simple figures of St. Roch from the beginning of the 17th century and St. Sebastian from the 18th century.

Furthermore, a stone relief from Dorsten with a former donor picture and the depiction of the Pentecost scene from the 17th century and another with the depiction of the Last Supper from the 15th century have been preserved. Remnants of the late Gothic sacrament house can be seen together with the lion holding a shield and the Lambertus figure above the entrance . The organ is a work from 1916 with 15 stops and mechanical action.
