The Catholic parish church of St. Laurentius is a neoclassical hall church in the Hohkeppel district of Lindlar in the Bergisches Land .

Building history

The patronage of St. Lawrence suggests that it was founded in the second half of the 10th century. A first documentary mention supposedly comes from the year 958, in which the own church was transferred to the monastery of St. Severin in Cologne . The authenticity of this document is disputed. In the 12th century a three-aisled pillar basilica was built in the Romanesque style, which was named a parish church in the 15th century. The medieval building was demolished in 1835 and rebuilt as a neoclassical hall building in the shape of a normal Schinkel church by 1842 . Only the four-storey west tower of the Romanesque church remained. On the east side of the church there is a sacrament house for processions, which can be dated to the year 1722 via a building inscription. A comprehensive renovation took place between 1956 and 1959.

Furnishing

The inventory of the church includes an organ gallery with a three-tower organ front, a wooden pulpit from the 17th century and a statue of St. Lawrence.

Monument protection

The area of the church is a ground monument according to the law for the protection and care of monuments in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia (Monument Protection Act - DSchG) . Investigations and targeted collection of finds are subject to approval, and accidental finds are reported to the monument authorities.
