St. Leonhard in Bebenhausen

The Roman Catholic subsidiary church St. Leonhard is located in Bebenhausen , a district of Kettershausen in the Unterallgäu district ( Bavaria ). The church building is a listed building .

history

The first mention of a Leonhard chapel can be found in a visitation report from 1659. During a renovation in 1788, due to the dilapidated west wall of the nave, the same was shortened. The master carpenter Benedikt Riedmeyer from Babenhausen built a new roof structure . The existing church building is a neo-Gothic new building from the years 1873 to 1874. The church tower was probably built later.

Building description

The short nave consists of two window axes, the east corners of which are beveled on the inside. A wooden gallery with a paneled parapet is attached to the west side inside. The flat ceiling of the nave is painted and shows a representation of St. Leonhard in the middle . The windows in both the nave and the slightly retracted choir are pointed arches. The choir, closed on three sides, also consists of two window axes and is connected to the nave by a pointed arch .

Access to the church is through a keel arched door on the west side. There is a finial above the door . There is a small circular window in the gable on the west side. The square church tower is attached to the end of the choir and has corner pilaster strips and slotted openings. Above the third floor there is a profiled cornice. The upper floor is slightly narrower than the building section below and has ogival sound openings. The profiled eaves cornice is drawn up on each side in the middle in a pointed gable. The church tower is covered with a square, slate-covered pointed helmet .

Interior

The neo-Gothic altar shows a seated figure of the Mother of God in the center . On both sides this is flanked by the figures of Saints Leonhard and Joseph . Outside the altar there is an angel on each side. On the south wall of the nave there is a crucifix from the first half of the 18th century. The large body is made of wood and framed . The cross itself is neo-Gothic.
