St. Leonhard (Birkenfelde)
The Roman Catholic village church of St. Leonhard is located in the municipality of Birkenfelde in the Eichsfeld district in Thuringia .
history
Today's church in Birkenfelde was built between 1708 and 1711. She is the successor of a small dilapidated church. The location is in the middle of the village on a rock massif. Experts therefore suspect that the old church tower was preserved. The relationship between the tower and the nave also supports this thesis, especially since the church was once a fortified church . The property and the church can only be reached from the north via a path. The land is surrounded by an eight meter high wall.
Furnishing
The church is consecrated to St. Leonhard , helper in need and patron saint for cattle, especially horses.
The baroque village church has an altar from 1715 and a painting of the resurrection of Jesus Christ . Relics rest on the altar stone .
The organ was created in 1910 by Franz Eggert and Anton Feith from Paderborn.
