The church

The Protestant village church of St. Margareta in Großschwabhausen in the Weimarer Land district in Thuringia was originally located on the western edge of the village with a walled cemetery . Now it stands in the middle of the western village. In the former old cemetery, in front of the church, there is a memorial to the fallen warriors of the First World War . It belongs to the parish Großschwabhausen in the parish of Jena the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

The name of the patron saint Margaret of Scotland and her image can be seen carved in stone.

The church is a choir tower church with an attached nave . The octagonal tower rises above the square of the church tower with the following house , lantern and tower button as well as weather vane .

The nave was renewed 1607–1609, probably also the baptismal font and pulpit , which also bore these dates, but were lost. Further modifications followed.

The last major restoration took place in 1970.
