Chapel of St. Margareth on the castle plateau

St. Margareth is a Catholic chapel in Hochstein , a district of the municipality of Bissingen in the Swabian district of Dillingen an der Donau , which was built in the 17th century. The chapel is a protected architectural monument .

history

Probably in the first half of the 17th century a fire destroyed the Hochstein Castle and the associated chapel. The present chapel on the castle plateau was built at the end of the 17th century. The patronage of St. Margareth was probably transferred from the castle chapel.

architecture

At the highest point of the castle plateau rises the whitewashed chapel, which is crowned by a hexagonal ridge turret with an onion hood over the gable of the gable roof. The choir is closed on three sides and is broken through by slender window openings.

Furnishing

The altar with two columns and Corinthian capitals dates from the time the chapel was built. It has a cranked cornice and entablature, in the blasted segment gable stands a wooden figure of St. Wendelin flanked by smaller statues of Saints Willibald and Walburga . In the semicircular central niche there is a statue of St. Margarethe and to the left of her a bishop, to the right of her is St. Anna herself the third . Seven votive tablets from the 18th and 19th centuries and an offering box with a baluster base from the 17th century complete the furnishings.
