The Church of St. Maria Friedenskönigin was a Catholic church in the Leverkusen district of Wiesdorf . As a branch church, it was part of the congregation Herz-Jesu und St. Antonius .

history

The church designed by the Leverkusen architect Hubert Jacobs was inaugurated on Easter Monday 1954 (April 19). Because of its shape it is popularly referred to as “God's ski jump”. The wooden bell tower was demolished in 1973. The last mass was celebrated in the church on September 25, 2004. The profanation probably took place in the summer of 2006.

On September 11, 1955, the organ, built by the organ building workshop Romanus Seifert & Sohn from Kevelaer, was ceremoniously consecrated . At the console of the new organ sat the Cologne cathedral organist at the time, Prof. Josef Zimmermann. After the church was profaned, the sale of the organ failed, so that in the summer of 2006 the church council decided to donate the organ to the Marian pilgrimage church in Górka Klasztorna in Poland.

The sacristy bell and the bell cast in 1954 with the inscription “Maria Regina Pacis Ora Pro Nobis” were donated to the Catholic community in the sister city of Schwedt in Leverkusen .

The church, which had been vacant for years, was demolished in April 2012.
