The tower was built in 1866 according to plans by an architect named Weise. During the Second World War, the church was so badly damaged that the vaults in the central nave and in the choir collapsed. After the war, the missing vault was replaced by a flat ceiling. Only in the two side aisles are the vaults preserved.
