St. Marien (Gompertshausen)

The church

The listed Evangelical Lutheran village church of St. Marien is in Gompertshausen , a district of Heldburg in the Hildburghausen district in Thuringia .

According to a building inscription, the church was built in 1461. Nothing is known about a previous building. From 1561 until the end of 1918 the church was an independent parish church . Since then she has been cared for by Westhausen as she was from 1637 to 1644 .

In 1803 two galleries were built into the 15 meter long nave on ornate wooden pillars. The flat church ceiling is also supported by such columns. The stained glass windows date from the 19th century. Behind the altar in the large east window stands the risen Christ surrounded by angels . On the north side, Mary with the baby Jesus is shown in the pointed arch window . The south window is dedicated to the Whitsun events. The municipal coat of arms is also shown.
