History and architecture

After the Second World War , the influx of Catholic expellees to the evangelical areas around Diemelsee made it necessary to build a Catholic church. Construction of the church began on July 6, 1950, and the inauguration took place on April 15 by Auxiliary Bishop Baumann from Paderborn. The building was built from 1950 to 1951 according to plans by the architect Joachim-G. Hanke erected. Aloys Dietrich's drafts served as a template for the architect. Around 1949, Dietrich designed two types of churches of different sizes, which were then adopted by the local architects, slightly modified. The Marienkirche is based on the smaller of the two types of church. The church is subject to the patronage of Our Lady of Sorrows . It fits into the then new housing estate Adorf. The architect understood the church as a larger house, which stands out from the residential buildings in the area thanks to the ridge turret and the portal, but which blends in with the rectangular structures and sloping roofs. Together with the rectory there is a gable roof covered both by a Community Portal developed. The church and the rectory are equipped with the same window formats. The church interior is rectangular and extends into the attic. The flat-roofed choir and the nave are separated by a large round arch. At the back of the building there is a small gallery on three arches . In the low turret hangs a bell from 1797, which probably comes from Bontkirchen . The inscription reads: My call means God's honor, as well as for school and children's teaching .
