St. Marien Thun

The Church of St. Marien (or Marienkirche ) is a Roman Catholic church in Thun in the canton of Bern in Switzerland .

history

The first Catholic Church of St. Mary dates back to 1893. The catchment area then extended over the entire Bernese Oberland and the southern Central Plateau up to and including Münsingen . A new building was inaugurated in 1953, and a multi-purpose building was also erected in 1987. The original church continues to be used as a chapel .

The catchment area of ​​the parish consists of 17 political communities in the Oberland and Mittelland east of the Aare .
