The church

The Protestant village church of St. Martin is located in the Schoppendorf district of the city of Bad Berka in the Weimarer Land district in Thuringia . The Schoppendorf parish belongs to the Buchfart-Legefeld parish association in the Weimar parish of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

The church was first mentioned in a document in the 14th century. The church, which was destroyed in the Thirty Years' War , was rebuilt by the residents of the village until 1693.

The floor plan of the church is rectangular. The church tower stands above the western portal as a roof turret with the year 1881/82. Inside the small church there are two-story galleries and a pulpit altar . In the tower hangs a bronze bells from 1881, cast by the Franz Schilling (Apolda) company . It bears the inscription "Concordia".

The roof was renovated in 2006, the foundations were renewed in 2011–2013 and the interior was renovated in the first half of 2015, with the color scheme being given by the Weimar-based artist Erdmute Neubert. In doing so, u. a. the seating was replaced by pews donated by a church in Neustadt am Rennsteig . On June 21, 2015, the rededication took place in a festive service, held by Superintendent Henrich Herbst (Weimar) and the local pastor Joachim Neubert (Buchfart) in the presence of the local mayor Siegfried Fürst and the mayor of the city of Bad Berka , Dr. Volker Schaedel took place.
