St. Matthias (Bleicherode)

St. Matthias is a Roman Catholic branch church in Bleicherode in the Nordhausen district . It belongs to the parish Cathedral of the Holy Cross Nordhausen in the dean's office Nordhausen of the diocese of Erfurt .

It is a single-nave , neo-Gothic hall construction with a polygonal choir and a western roof turret . The building measures 21 meters in length and 8 meters in width. The facade and the portal protrusion are made of sandstone , in which figures are incorporated.

Only since 1865 has there been a Roman Catholic community in the Protestant town of Bleicherode since the Reformation, which first met in a prayer room on Weberstrasse. The foundation stone was laid on May 21, 1907, construction began on March 1, 1908. From October 1908, the church could be used; However , it was not consecrated until July 4, 1913.

The choir was given its current design in 1951. An annex was built in 1977 and renovation work was carried out in 1983.
