St. Mauritius

St. Mauritius is the Roman Catholic parish church in the Büderich district of Meerbusch .

In 1891 the old Romanesque church from the 13th century burned down except for the tower . The Cologne architect Theodor Roß was then commissioned to build a new church. However, it should not be built on the site of the old church, but in a more central location in the community.

The church is a three - aisled neo - Gothic brick church , consisting of a large central nave and two much narrower aisles. The ships are separated by black marble columns. At 54 meters, the church tower is the tallest building in the city of Meerbusch. St. Mauritius was built in 1893. The official laying of the foundation stone took place on March 19, 1893. However, by this time the walls had already grown to window height. The consecration took place on October 24, 1893 . At that time the construction cost the enormous sum of 116,639 gold marks. The church is a listed building .
