St. Mauritius is the Roman Catholic parish church of Ibbenbüren in Tecklenburger Land ( Steinfurt district ) in North Rhine-Westphalia .

history

1949: Installation of the new bells through the opening of the tower clock

After disputes in the Reformation and Counter-Reformation, the old St. Mauritius Church finally fell to the Protestant community in 1677. Today it is the Evangelical Christ Church .

The Roman Catholic Mauritius parish was forced to hold church services in neighboring Riesenbeck across the borders of Ibbenbüren and the Upper County of Lingen . Presumably there was a chapel on a farm in Riesenbeck-Birgte that was used by the Ibbenbüren Catholics. They had to move to the area of ​​the Principality of Münster for 43 years in order to hold their services.

On August 17, 1717, they received permission from the Prussian King Friedrich Wilhelm I to hold services in private houses. On November 1st of the same year they received permission to build an inconspicuous chapel. This building was completed in 1722 through the greatest efforts of the poor population. It was a half-timbered church that was located on Grosse Strasse . It measured 7 meters in height, 32 meters in length and was 15 meters wide. It was not until 1756 that an organ and 1784 bells could be purchased.

In 1828 the church was so dilapidated that a new building was necessary. The new building made of Ibbenbüren sandstone was consecrated in 1831. The cross was placed on the tower on October 31, 1833.

In 1949 the four new bells Maria, Mauritius, Joseph and Aloysius were installed. The bells were raised on the portal side of the tower and lifted into the tower via the wall opening of the tower clock.

After the Second World War , new parish churches were built in numerous districts and separated from the Mauritius church. At Easter 2006, the parish of Ss was created through the merger of the parishes of St. Mauritius and St. Maria-Magdalena in Laggenbeck . Mauritius-Maria-Magdalena. On September 22, 2019, the parish merged with the two other Ibbenbüren parishes St. Franziskus and Heilig Kreuz to form the parish of St. Mauritius in Ibbenbüren and Brochterbeck.

The organ of the Mauritius Church was built in 1989 by the Oberlinger Brothers organ building company. It has 34 sounding registers on two manuals and a pedal. The disposition is as follows:
