Monument on the old stone bridge

Laggenbeck is a district in the east of the city of Ibbenbüren in the Tecklenburger Land region of the Steinfurt district ( North Rhine-Westphalia ). With 9,540 inhabitants (September 30, 2018) it is the largest district of the city after the city center. Laggenbeck was first mentioned in a document around 1150. The origin of the village is in today's Aatal. It is believed that the name was derived from Sumpfbach or something similar. Until a larger bridge was demolished and rebuilt in 1975, the old stone railway bridge on Mettinger Straße (L796) over the railway embankment was the landmark of Laggenbeck. It is still often used in documents as a symbol of Laggenbeck.

The St. Maria Magdalena Church

The entrance to Laggenbeck from Autobahn 30 is adorned by the so-called Rosen-Kreisel. This roundabout was the first roundabout in the Steinfurt district. There are two churches in the center of the village: the Catholic St. Maria Magdalena Church and the Protestant St. John's Church on Permer Straße.

Since the early 1990s, the district has been experiencing a real construction boom, through which the district has continuously expanded in all directions. Since the core of Laggenbeck is largely bounded in the north by the Schafberg and in the south by the federal motorway 30, most of the building areas have already been developed here. The main development is therefore concentrated towards the east and west. Although the district is still very agricultural, it has since developed into a residential suburb.

The village community center

In addition to the Catholic and Protestant churches already mentioned, the district has several kindergartens and two schools: The Kardinal-von-Galen primary school is the largest primary school in the entire city area. The second school is an all-day main school in which the students are also looked after in the afternoons. The open-air swimming pool on the centrally located market square, which is supported by a private association, was open between May and September. The village community center is available for larger events in a converted, decades-old gymnasium, which was originally built in 1936/37 as the Hitler Youth Home.

traffic

Laggenbeck is located directly on the Autobahn 30 (E30), junction no. 12. This means that the city of Osnabrück, around 20 km away, can be reached in a good 15 minutes by car. State road L 501 , the former federal road 65, runs on the far northern edge of the district .

The Muenster / Osnabrueck Airport (FMO) is about 20 km away. Since the closure of the station building and dismantling of the tracks for freight Laggenbeck only has the railway breakpoint " Ibbenbüren-Laggenbeck " at the Löhne-Rheine railway , the main route from Amsterdam to Berlin . The district has connections to Rheine and Bad Bentheim as well as Osnabrück , Braunschweig and Bielefeld via the regional trains that stop here .

Due to the high through traffic from the motorway to the L 501, the construction of a bypass in the west of Laggenbeck ( k24n ) was discussed for many years . After many years, construction of the first section between the roundabout near the autobahn and Alstedder Strasse began in 2008 and was inaugurated on October 25, 2011. In the 1220 meter long street, 8.75 million euros were invested by various building authorities, the Steinfurt district contributed 1.61 million euros, the city 1.49 million euros and the administrative district of Münster 5.65 million euros.

The continuation of the road to L 501 Osnabrücker Strasse on the Ibbenbürener Bergplatte is currently planned. The 6.5 million euro project is intended to relieve traffic in the center of Laggenbeck.
