Friedrich Ernst Hunsche (born September 1, 1905 in Lienen ; † August 13, 1994 in Isernhagen ) was a German author in High German and Low German in the Tecklenburger Land . The writer , linguist , genealogist , local history researcher and archivist worked as an autodidact into old age.

Life

Friedrich Ernst Hunsche was born in Lienen- Alrup and grew up on his parents' farm in Lienen-Meckelwege. His father was also a wheelwright and his mother a nurse. After attending primary school (1911–1918), he began an apprenticeship as a locksmith in 1920, but finished it after three years for health reasons without a qualification. Supported by his parents, he discovered early on his interest in writing poetry and prose as well as in the natural sciences. From 1922 he attended the trade school, from 1923 to 1924 a correspondence course at the German Technical Center to become a technician.

From 1927 to 1928 Hunsche was a trainee with the German studies and folklorist Friedrich von der Leyen at the University of Cologne , after which he lived as a freelance writer in Lienen . From 1940 he worked as an employee in the employment office in Lengerich , after 1946 again as a freelance writer in Lengerich, Brochterbeck and Ibbenbüren . From 1960 to 1979 he was also a librarian , museum director and district archivist in Tecklenburg .

On September 17, 1941 he married Frieda Elisabeth Sudhaus, born in southern Brazil, daughter of the emigrant and pastor Paul Sudhaus ; they had three children. From 1993 until his death in 1994 he lived with his wife in Isernhagen near their son Udo Hunsche. Frieda Hunsche outlived her husband by a year; both are buried in the Ibbenbüren main cemetery.

Friedrich Ernst Hunsche became interested in science and literature at an early age and wrote his first fairy tales and poems at the age of 13. He published the first volume of poetry in 1924. He learned the languages ​​English, Italian, Spanish and Esperanto. He wrote poetry in Esperanto .

He built his first camera as early as 1917, the panels still preserved show the people around him. By taking passport and family photos, he obtained the financial means for books. He photographed his homeland and fellow human beings well into old age.

The focus of his activities was on the literary and journalistic field. In addition to specialized books, he wrote numerous poems and aphorisms; some of it he published in volumes of poetry - some in handwritten form. He has also written radio plays and dramas, some of which have been performed, most recently in 2012 on the occasion of the celebrations for the 700th anniversary of Kattenvenne .

Friedrich Ernst Hunsche became known through the collection and publication of sagas and stories from his Westphalian homeland, as well as through local history and genealogical works and books. As an author or co-author, he is responsible for numerous books and documentations about the Tecklenburg district and its communities. He also worked on illustrated books of the Tecklenburger Land .

An important part of his work was dedicated to the documentation and preservation of the Low German language in Westphalia , especially in the Tecklenburger Land. He gave lectures on this, and his work in this area includes a dictionary, grammar, phonetics, and numerous stories and poems. He also translated parts of the Bible (Psalms, Gospels, Creed, Our Father). Hunsche's Low German stories have been published by Schöningh in ten volumes . Friedrich E. Hunsche also wrote about the development of the Tödden's linen trade , which played an important role in the Tecklenburger Land . He was also interested in the Tödden's secret language , Humpisch .

He conducted intensive genealogical research and almost completely documented the emigration from the Steinfurt district to North and South America on the basis of archives. His book “Our ancestors, history of the Hunsche families from Westphalia” (1976, self-published) is considered exemplary. Thanks to his extensive knowledge, he was able to help numerous people from home and abroad to discover their ancestors. To this end, he has worked with national and international genealogical institutes.

As a journalist, he wrote newspaper and magazine articles regularly from 1928. As a writer and scientist, he has written over 40 books, either as a writer or as a collaborator.

He has compiled his work as a writer , local history researcher , genealogist and linguist in numerous books. The history of the Tecklenburg district and later the Steinfurt district has been documented through his work.

His estate with extensive card files, documents, unpublished manuscripts and documentation and his library are kept in the Hunsche archive in Lengerich-Wechte by the Förderverein Talaue südliches Tecklenburg e. V. prepared and cataloged with financial support from the North Rhine-Westphalia Foundation for Nature Conservation, Homeland and Cultural Preservation and by the Society for the Promotion of Charitable Purposes in the District of Steinfurt mbH . The Hunsche archive has been accessible to interested parties for studies since November 2007. It is also used for readings of High German and Low German texts from his estate.

On April 29, 2015, reports and letters on emigration from the Tecklenburg district collected from the estate of Friedrich Schmedt, the former district administrator from Lienen, were handed over to the Hunsche archive. He worked closely with FE Hunsche on local history research and the maintenance of the Low German language.
