St. Michael in Kaschenbach

St. Michael is the Roman Catholic branch church of Kaschenbach in the Eifel district of Bitburg-Prüm in Rhineland-Palatinate . The church is dedicated to St. Dedicated to Archangel Michael . Kaschenbach belongs to the parish of St. Peter , Alsdorf .

history

A church in Kaschenbach was mentioned in 1570. From this chapel mentioned, the choir , which is now used as a sacristy , is still preserved . At that time, however, St. Michael Patron, but St. Thomas. In 1613 it was reported that the chapel was in a state of disrepair. Already at that time Kaschenbach belonged to the parish Alsdorf.

In 1846 the old church was torn down except for the choir and the present church was built in the same place. In 1874 the church was finally given the roof turret, which was built according to plans by the Bitburg master builder Peter Josef Julius Wolff .

In 1992 the church was completely renovated.

St. Michael is a single-nave hall church in the transition style from classicism to neo-Gothic . In the east the nave closes with a choir closed on five sides. The slate-covered octagonal roof turret rises above the west gable, in which the ogival main portal is located on the ground floor and a three-part ogival window above it.
