St. Michaelis (Bad Lobenstein)
The Protestant town church St. Michaelis is dominant in the north, beyond the market development in the city of Bad Lobenstein in the Saale-Orla district in Thuringia .
history
The laying of the foundation stone of the church is not recorded. It is known that between 1587 and 1612 the nave was enlarged and a church tower was added. In 1714, 1732 and 1862 the church burned down and was repeatedly rebuilt.
This town church consists of a flat-roofed hall with the tower on the south side. The choir is narrow and flat and ends on three sides at an octagon. There is no triumphal arch between the choir and the hall . The town church has buttresses and is not vaulted. The decor is neo-Gothic.
The altar wall in encaustic technique by Friedrich Popp is remarkable .
After the fall of the Wall until 2007, extensive renovation work on the church tower, the roof covering and the facade took place outside .
