St. Nicolai (Drackenstedt)
St. Nicolai is the Protestant church in the village of Drackenstedt . The church was originally called St. Cosmas and Damian .
History and architecture
The oldest part of the church building is the late Romanesque lower part of the tower. The bell storey was probably created a little later. The tower to the west of the nave has a rectangular floor plan and is perpendicular to the nave. The ogival sound openings arranged as a pair are also preserved from this period. In the basement of the tower there is a barrel vault that was converted into an entrance hall in 1893.
Today's nave was built from rubble stones in 1750. Large, arched windows are arranged between buttresses . The interior of the church is covered by a wooden barrel ceiling. The horseshoe gallery is two-story on its west side and supports the organ built in 1804 . The furnishings are simple and date from the time the church was built.
