St. Nicolai Church

The Protestant village church of St. Nicolai is in the Morungen district of the city of Sangerhausen in the Mansfeld-Südharz district in Saxony-Anhalt . It belongs to the parish area Oberndorf in Kirchenkreis Eisleben-Sömmerda the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

history

The first documented new church building is dated to 1322. Around this time the village gave up its location and took the current one including the church . In 1527 the parish introduced the Reformation . In 1655 the village fell through war and the plague. A year later, 14 families repopulated the place. Since then the church has been renovated and rebuilt several times.

In 1796 the church received three small bells . In 1869 the Hofener baroque altar (a family item of the Eller-Eberstein family ) and the Strobel organ were installed .

For the 1100th anniversary of the place, the church was newly plastered, painted and the organ made playable.
