Saint Nicholas Church

Sankt Nikolaus is the Protestant church in the village of Zielitz in Saxony-Anhalt .

History and architecture

The church building was built in 1726 as a baroque hall church on a rectangular floor plan. An inscription embedded in the tower gives the year of construction. To the west of the originally plastered nave is the church tower with an octagonal pointed helmet from 1877. The facade of the nave is structured by corner pilasters and a cornice . In the western area of ​​the ship there are two windows one above the other. There are small windows with a cross-oval format under arched windows.

Inside the nave is spanned by a flat ceiling. The furnishings date from the time the church was built, especially the box stalls and the horseshoe gallery . The pulpit altar is remarkable . It is elaborately designed and has a passage in the middle. Carved acanthus cheeks , composite columns and a blown gable shape its appearance. The pulpit's basket is three-sided and decorated with foliage and volutes .

The organ prospectus dates from the end of the 19th century and was made by the Stendal company R. Voigt .
