St. Nikolaus (Schmeheim)
The listed Evangelical Lutheran village church of St. Nikolaus is located in the middle of the Schmeheim community on a small hill in the Hildburghausen district in Thuringia .
The construction time is uncertain. The mention of the churchyard in a deed from 1418 testifies to the existence of a church at that time. In 1697 the existing church was expanded and completely renovated in 1836 and 1876. In 1911 the stairwell was added .
The bronze bells were used for armament purposes in both world wars . The small bell from 1921 and the large bell were reinstalled in 1958.
The font with the year 1593 was found on a farm in 1997. He's back in church now.
The organ with a baroque prospect from 1787 was rebuilt several times in the 19th century and replaced in 1886 by a new building by the organ builder Kühn.
