The parish church of St. Pankratius in Degmarn , a district of Oedheim in the Heilbronn district in northern Baden-Württemberg , is a Catholic parish church .

history

The first church in Degmarn already existed in the 17th century and was looked after by the Oedheimer Frühmesser from 1662 , and from 1705 by clergymen from Neckarsulm, Wimpfen and Mosbach. From 1723 to 1725, instead of the dilapidated old church, a new church building dedicated to Saint Pankratius was built by the Teutonic Order , to which the place had belonged since the 15th century. The building was probably built according to plans by the master builder Keller and consecrated by the Würzburg auxiliary bishop Bernhard Mayer on October 8, 1725 (one day after the Mauritius Church in Oedheim). In 1791 Degmarn became an independent parish. The church burned down in 1945, and in particular the tower was destroyed. The church was restored until 1958, and the restoration was completed that year with the consecration of new bells. In 1962 a new church organ was procured.

description

The parish church is a single-nave church building, the nave and the choir face east, in the northeast corner between the apse and the nave is the rectangular, 34-meter-high bell tower, which on the third floor changes from a rectangular to an octagonal floor plan and from an onion dome is crowned. Under the large portal on the west gable, dated 1723, are the coats of arms of the Teutonic Order Comturs Karl Heinrich von Hornstein and Georg Adolph Speth Freiherr von und zu Schülzburg, during whose term of office the church was built.

The main altar of the church is dedicated to St. Pancras. It is flanked on the left by a Marian altar and on the right by a Joseph altar. The stucco work in the choir vault should be mentioned among the other furnishings of the church.

The building next to the church, which has been used as a rectory since 1792, was also built as a schoolhouse by the Teutonic Order in 1764. This building also has a richly decorated historical entrance portal.
