St. Paulus in Lauffen am Neckar

St. Paulus is a Catholic parish church with an associated community center in Lauffen am Neckar in the Heilbronn district in Baden-Württemberg . The Pauluszentrum was built in 1975/76 according to plans by Karl Hans Neumann .

history

For a long time after the Reformation, Lauffen was almost entirely Protestant. A Catholic community has only existed since the arrival of numerous Catholic expellees and refugees after the Second World War .

The Pauluszentrum was built in the following years after an architectural competition in 1973 and inaugurated on September 26, 1976. The parish made demands that went beyond the purely sacred use of the building. As a church in the world today , the building was required to serve the public. As a result, architect Karl Hans Neumann designed the church interior in such a way that the altar area with the liturgical devices can be separated by a flexible wall and serves as a weekday church, while the rest of the church interior can be used for other purposes. The artistic design of the chancel was created by Gerhard Tagwerker , the glass windows of the church are by Josef de Ponte . In 2000 the church received an organ from the local organ builder Rensch . In 2006 the entire facility was comprehensively renovated. Since the altar and ambo were damaged by years of use, the church was also given new furnishings based on designs by Joachim Maria Hoppe .

The church of St. Josef in Neckarwestheim belongs to the Catholic parish in Lauffen as a branch church . The entire congregation has about 3,000 members.

description

The Pauluskirche has a polygonal floor plan. The building, made of exposed concrete , is spanned by a two-tier flat ceiling, with a smaller, higher component protruding above the altar area with a cross. The actual church space corresponds to an octagon widened to the north, with an altar area facing south-west. To the west is a hall-like, multifunctional foyer area in which stairs lead to the community rooms in the basement. Southwest of the church is the similarly polygonal and flat-roofed rectory.
