Parish Church of St. Peter

The Catholic parish church of St. Peter is a listed church building in Born , a district of the municipality of Brüggen in the district of Viersen ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).

History and architecture

The parish probably emerged from a separate church belonging to the Born House, which has disappeared. It has been incorporated into the Kreuzherrenkloster in Brüggen since the end of the 15th century .

The building stands above Lake Borner on a walled, abandoned cemetery. The three-nave pseudo basilica with a choir from a yoke and 5/8 circuit is a high gabled roof covered. The choir with the two-part tracery windows was built in 1433. The single nave nave from 1450 was extended to three aisles until 1457 . Three-part windows with rich tracery shapes were installed. The three-storey west tower , decorated with tracery panels and accompanied by stair turrets, was built from 1466 to 1467 . The tower spire , which was too low , was renewed in 1802. The nave is structured by ornamental windows. The choir glazing was made in 1950 by Ursula Quincke.

Furnishing

  • The richly carved side altars date from the middle of the 17th century
  • The baptism from the 13th century is made of Namur bluestone . The basin-shaped basin covered with four masks rests on a central cylinder and four columns
  • One confessional is from the 17th century, the other from the 18th century
