St. Peter (Roth an der Our)
St. Peter is a Roman Catholic branch church in Roth an der Our in the Eifelkreis Bitburg-Prüm in Rhineland-Palatinate . The church emerged from a coming of the Knights Templar .
history
In 1154 Pope Hadrian IV confirmed the possession of Roth to the Trier Simeonstift . Later ownership passed to the Counts of Vianden . Before 1228, Count Philipp von Vianden founded the Templars' branch in Roth and gave them the church there. With the dissolution of the Knights Templar, ownership passed to the Trier Coming of the Johanniter in 1311 .
Construction of the church began around 1100 when the northern side apse with arched front yoke and the beginning of the adjoining northern wall were built. After that, the building stopped. On the outside, the side apse shows an unusual niche-like decoration, of which there is no example in the Romanesque .
In the course of the 12th century, St. Peter was built as a three-aisled basilica with an alternating column on a trapezoidal floor plan to gain space. To the north and south of the main apse there was a choir flank tower, of which only the southern one has survived. After 1466 the nave and the side aisles were vaulted and the upper clad windows were therefore walled up. In the Gothic period, the southern side apse was also converted into a square chapel. The west facade was redesigned in baroque style in the 18th century.
The church, which was the church of the mother parish of Vianden , was subordinated to the parish of Körperich in 1815 . In the course of the 19th century, the north side apse was converted into a sacristy, and the large window, which partially destroyed the Romanesque exterior structure, probably also dates from this time. In 1919 a portal was discovered under the plaster on the north side, which was partially exposed.
