history

Nave and choir

The late Gothic church, built in the second half of the 15th century, probably suffered massive damage in the Thirty Years' War . It was rebuilt from 1710 to 1719 under Pastor Johann Baptist Pfister. During this time the Gothic choir vault was replaced by a baroque stucco ceiling. Under the direction of Pastor Franz Xaver Agricola, three new altars were purchased from 1760 to 1770. In 1786 and 1787, the church was repaired by master mason Johannes Kerner, master carpenter Matheis Mayer, carpenter Xaver Korn and locksmith Anton Schertzinger, all from Bellenberg. A new organ from the organ building company of Friedrich Schmahl in Ulm was installed in 1829. Master mason Burkart and master carpenter Eichner von Illertissen extended the nave by an axis to the west in 1854. The interior of the church was renovated in 1876. The color used is said to have badly distorted the interior. In 1878 the tower was raised and given a pointed helmet. The nave received ceiling paintings by Norbert Simon in 1897 , which were replaced by new ones during the major renovation in 1950. A major renovation took place in 1979. The last exterior and interior renovation was completed in May 2009.

Building description

The church is a flat-roofed hall building with a drawn-in choir building enclosed on three sides with two axes in the east. The tower with a square floor plan, arched frieze and keel arch panels stands on the northern side.

Furnishing

Frescoes

All of the frescoes in the church were painted by Karl Manninger in 1950 . On the choir ceiling you can see a ceiling fresco with the church patrons St. Peter and Paul. Two angels hold their attributes. The four evangelists are depicted in heart-shaped cartouches in the spandrels. There are further frescoes in the middle of the sides. The key handover to Peter is shown on the east side and the angel appears to Peter in prison on the north side . The southern fresco shows Pauli's conversion , the western one Pauli's sermon . The large ceiling fresco in the nave is dedicated to Mary as the Rosary Queen.

Piece

The extensive stucco work in the choir was added around 1710 to 1719.

Altars

The altars with their paintings were created between 1760 and 1770. The high altar, which fills the entire east side of the choir, has a block-shaped stipes . The wide rotating tabernacle is on a high pedestal. The central axis, in the niche of which stands a small crucifix, is flanked by inclined scrolls . On the outside they limit concave, receding side axes. On the curved entablature there is an angel on the left and right.

Two more figures are attached to the walls of the choir room, to the north of which is the confessional. The choir arch is flanked by two identical side altars, each with a statue and a picture above and below.

The organ

organ

The organ is on the gallery in the west of the church. The instrument probably comes from the Ulm organ building workshop of Christoph Friedrich Schmahl (1787–1839), a grandson of Georg Friedrich Schmahl , who continued the workshop of his uncle Johann Matthäus Schmahl in Ulm .

Todays use

A new parish church was necessary in 1959 because of the ever-growing community. On September 8, 1963, this modern church was consecrated with the patronage “Our Lady of the Rosary” by Augsburg Auxiliary Bishop Josef Zimmermann ; St. Peter and Paul lost its function as a parish church, but continues to serve as a wedding church. Currently (2018) a service is celebrated on Fridays from May to October.
