St. Peter and Paul

St. Peter and Paul is a Protestant village church in the Petersberg district of the city of Eisenberg at the northeast end of the Wethau valley in the Saale-Holzland district in Thuringia . It belongs to the parish Eisenberg Saasa in Kirchenkreis Eisenberg of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

history

As early as 1148 to the middle of the 13th century there was a Cistercian monastery in Petersberg , which was connected to the village church of St. Salvator (Saasa) near Eisenberg, so that it can be assumed that the construction of the first church in the village was around this time.

church

The current church is the third church in the village. In 1893 the community decided to demolish the second dilapidated church from the 16th century. The solitary brick church, built in neo-Gothic style, was consecrated in 1899.

Choir window

The previous building and the monastery seal with the apostles Peter and Paul are depicted on the windows .

Bells

The three bronze bells fell victim to both world wars and were replaced by steel bells.

The pneumatic organ comes from the workshop of the Poppe company in Roda ( Stadtroda )
