St. Peter and Paul (Volkstedt)
The Church of St. Peter and Paul is the Protestant church in the village of Volkstedt near Eisleben in Saxony-Anhalt . It belongs to the parish area Oberndorf in Kirchenkreis Eisleben-Sömmerda the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .
architecture
The church was built in 1830 on the site of a previous building, consecrated in 1390, on a hill in the center of the village. The building was created as a hall church in the neo-Gothic style . The eastern end is designed on three sides. The church tower is located on the west side of the quarry stone building. The tower, which is built on a square floor plan, is covered with a pointed helmet. The basement of the tower is of Romanesque origin and dates back to the second half of the 12th century.
Interior
Two round arches are still preserved from the previous building. In addition, fighter profiles from the High Romanesque period can also be partially recognized. In the nave there is a circumferential two-story gallery . The ceiling is designed as a wooden barrel. The church has a pulpit altar . Noteworthy is an octagonal baptismal font dated 1608 . The organ in the church was created in the second half of the 19th century by Friedrich Wilhelm Rühlmann from Zörbig . The organ prospect is designed in a round arch style. There are several baroque and rococo tombstones around the church .
