The parish church of St. Severin is on the corner of Herkenrather Strasse and Ommerbornstrasse in the Sand district of Bergisch Gladbach in the Rheinisch-Bergisches Kreis . It is a neo-Gothic church.

history

The church council of Sand decided in 1869 to build a new church because the old church in the old churchyard in Sand had become too small and in need of renovation. During the construction work, the church tower collapsed on November 21, 1879 , before it had a real roof. However, the construction work continued quickly, so that the church was consecrated on October 23, 1881. First the organ from 1851 was built in from the old church. However, since this had suffered a lot from the transport, it was replaced by a new organ in 1908. In both world wars, the church bells had to be handed in. They were replaced by three new bells in 1924 and five in 1957. In 1989 the church got a new organ.
