St. Spiritus (Pasewalk)
St. Spiritus is a hospital in Pasewalk in the Vorpommern-Greifswald district in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern , which was probably built in the second half of the 13th century based on the model of Santo Spirito in Sassia in Rome . The building is a listed building .
history
The building was created within the city wall near the Anklamer Gate, which no longer exists today, during the settlement of Pasewalk in the 13th century. Sick people were treated there, for example those suffering from leprosy . After the risk of contagion of the disease was recognized, the people were brought in front of the city gates to the St. Georg Hospital . From then on, St. Spiritus served to care for poor people. A hospital order from May 14, 1785, was approved by the Pomeranian consistory of that supervision authority dated 25 August 1786 and confirmed. The two previously independent hospitals merged in 1812 and have since been administered as the Spiritual Foundation of St. Georg and St. Spiritus . This foundation also built the Red Hospital in the city , for example . The building was badly damaged in World War II and rebuilt in 1952. A year later a home was operated in it. During renovation work in the 1990s, the remains of a warm air heating system from a previous building from the 13th century were discovered. They were secured in accordance with the preservation order and can be viewed from the floor of the hall ever since.
In the 21st century it houses a nursing home with 68 places.
The Spiritual Foundation St. Georg and St. Spiritus zu Pasewalk , a church foundation with legal capacity under civil law, received a new statute in 1991, which was revised in 2014.
