The lost Eitting Castle was located in the district of Eitting in the Lower Bavarian community of Laberweinting in the Straubing-Bogen district of Bavaria (northeast of the branch church of St. John the Baptist of Eitting).

history

The bishops of Regensburg had a castle built on the Schlossberg, which was first mentioned in 1147 and served as a ministerial seat. From the 13th century Eitting was a closed Hofmark with the Bishop of Regensburg as landlord and court lord. The castle was destroyed by the Swedes during the Thirty Years War in 1632 and left as a ruin. It was not rebuilt.

The castle chapel, which was still in use, was abandoned in 1683 due to its disrepair. In 1695 the current church ( branch church of St. John the Baptist ) was consecrated below the castle hill. With the secularization of 1803, the entire episcopal property passed to the state and the castle ruins were sold. In 1810 the castle was demolished and used as a quarry in the 19th century. The Schlossberg slid on the south side in 1981. Today only one rampart remains from the castle.
