The Irlbach Castle is located in the Lower Bavarian municipality of Irlbach in the Straubing-Bogen district (Graf-von-Bray-Straße 12).

history

The Hofmark Irlbach became the Pfleggericht counted Natternberg, but the castle was in the area of the District Court Straubing. The Erlbachers , such as Fridrich der Pankchouer von Erlbach, were the first to appear here until the second half of the 13th century . Then Irlbach came to the Altenburger: Around 1361 Eglof, Gilg and Mathäus shared the Altenburger Irlbach; Erhard der Rainer zu Schambach witnessed this division. In 1394 a Stephan Gustl von Altenburg sold his fourth part at the Irlbach Fortress to his cousin Eglof von Altenburg. A matheus from Altenburg appeared in 1407 when he brokered a court sale to the Niederaltaich monastery . The daughter Dorothea of this Matheus was married to Jorg Closner zu Hirschhorn. In 1451 the Closner were named owners of Erlbach Castle ; Jorg Closner is also entered in the land table in 1465 . Jorg Closner's mother-in-law is said to have been Agnes Zenger . And so a Hans Zenger zu Irlbach († 1506) is the next owner. In 1496, Duke Albrecht asked him to explain whether he would take over the post of guardian for the children of the late Degenberger . 1506 Tristram and Sigmund, sons of Hans Zenger, are named on Irlbach. During this time there seem to have been disagreements regarding inheritance law, because various estate administrators (Ulrich von Trautmannsdorf, Ulrich von Loppitz, David Puchberger, Georg Perger) are named. In the country table from 1538, the two Tristram and Sigmund Zenger are listed.

The next owner was Sigmund Freiherr zum Degenberg (1543), followed by Maria Freifrau von Degenberg, née von Parsberg, and Stephan Frankmann (1546). In 1544 Maria von Degenberg was named together with Steffan Trautmann as the owner of the Irlbacher Hofmarksherrschaft. In the 16th century, Irlbach came to the Fraunberger . The first of this family was Carl von Fraunberg zu Poxau (Bocksau) and Irlbach, councilor and court marshal of Duke Albrecht. In the land table of the Straubing Rent Office , 1570 is given as the owner Hans Christoph von Frauenberg. Genofeva, who was born in Fraunhofer, brought the property to Alexander von Grotta. However, the property had to be further divided among the heirs of Hans Christoph.

The Tabertshofer (1623), Fränking (1646) and Köck (1653) appear as lords of the court. By marrying a born von Köck, the property then passed to Johann Wolf von T (D) ürnitz (1712) and Anna Justina Violanta Freifrau von Türnitz (1752). The next owner was Heinrich Christoph Joseph Freiherr von Leoprechting (1756), who married the other Köck daughter, Maria Josepha Elisabeth. He was followed by Franz Xaver Freiherr von Leonprechting († 1788) and then his son Heinrich. He sold the Hofmark, which had once been a knight's fiefdom of the Crown of Bavaria, in 1811 to Count Franz Gabriel Bray. The Hofmark had previously been all modified . In 1814 Count Bray was given a rulership court here . However, the court was re-extruded as early as 1818, and a second class patrimonial court was set up again in 1820 and this remained in place until 1848. By marriage, Irlbach came to the family of the Barons Poschinger-Bray , who still own the castle today.

Irlbach Castle then and now

The castle dates back to 1569. A well-fortified, castle-like building can be seen on the engraving by Michael Wening . The residential building is flanked by a tower covered with an onion roof. A castle courtyard is created by a crenellated wall with a small and a large defense tower. The gate tower and the keep (stair tower) are still Gothic in essence . After 1818 the east wing was increased with a regotization of the keep. At the northeast corner there is now a projecting polygonal library tower . The castle chapel is designed with Gothic Biedermeier architecture.

A three-wing farmyard in front of the building adjoins the building to the south. The current building dates from the middle of the 19th century and there is a neo-Gothic fountain in the inner courtyard. The castle park is laid out in the English style and dates from the first half of the 19th century.

The castle brewery that used to exist here has been outsourced.
