Haggn Castle today

The Haggn Castle (formerly known as Castle in the hacking called) is located in the Lower Bavarian municipality of Neukirchen in the district of Straubing-Bogen (Haggn 24).

history

The former moated castle was first mentioned in a document in 1336. At that time a Johann Heinrich Steinberger is mentioned in Hacken († 1414). Dietrich der Steinberger passed his property on to Wilhelm and Kaspar Zenger . Wilhelm Zenger's children were Andreas and Elisabeth; Wilhelm († 1452) also acquired Wildenforst Castle . The daughter of Andreas, Cäcilia, died childless and therefore the closest relatives Ulrich Waldau and Georg Eschlbeck fought over the inheritance.

Next, here are the also from the Upper Palatinate from the area of Vohenstrauß originating Waldauer called. The first was Ulrich Waldauer, his successors were Georg I and his son Georg II Dominikus. As children he only had daughters and so Haggn got through his sister Anna to her husband Balthasar Türriegl, the caretaker at Mitterfels . Around 1500, the (co-) owners are also named out, Margreth von Fraunberg and Alhard von Paulsdorf. Burkhard Türriegl, son of the aforementioned Balthasar, sold Haggn in 1559 to the keeper of Schwarzach , Balthasar Kürmreutter, who also owned the nearby Pürgl Castle. His son Veit Adam had a daughter Barbara who, through her marriage to Simon Preu zu Straßkirchen, brought him the possessions of Haggn and Pürgl.

In 1665 the property came to the cousin of Simon Preu, the Straubing judge and Mautner Leopold von Rehlingen zu Pürgl, Haggn, Sparr and Höllgrub († 1693). Today's palace construction is essentially based on him. His son Adam Leopold died childless, so that his sister Maria Euphrosina inherited him. She married Hans Christoph Asch in 1681 and subsequently gave him the property in 1738. He was followed by his son Joseph Leopold Alois and lastly Ignaz Franz Alois von Asch. With this, this sex died out in the male line . A son of Joseph Leopold Alois, Joseph Clemens Alois, entered the Windberg Monastery in 1768 (monastery name Herbert ); after secularization he lived at Haggn Castle until his death. His brother Clemens studied theology and became a pastor in Feldkirchen and canon in Regensburg.

In 1857 Haggn Castle came to the son-in-law of Ignaz Franz Alois von Asch, Anton Freiherr von Schrenck-Notzing . From his three sons Leopold Baron von Schrenck-Notzing inherited Haggn and Pürgl. He expanded the property by buying several farms in Dießenbach. He had also started the construction of an electricity plant that supplied the villages of Haggn and Neukirchen with electricity. He had his property converted into a Fideikommiss . He died without descendants and this property passed to Otto Freiherrn von Berchem, who was married to a great niece of the testator. After Marlies Falck, a née Baroness von Berchem, owned Haggn Castle with her family, the castle became the property of the design company DANTE - Goods & Bads .

Haggn Castle is privately owned and cannot be visited. In the outbuildings there is a farmer's shop and a restaurant ( Schlossgasthof Zur Einkehr ), which are of course open to the public.

Haggn Castle after an engraving by Michael Wening from 1721

Haggn Castle then and now

After the engraving by Michael Wening from 1721, Hagg Castle stood on a small hill that was enclosed by a moat. A simple bridge led to the building ensemble, which, in addition to the two-storey, rectangular castle building, included a castle chapel and several farm buildings. Two onion domes stand out on the building, but they do not extend over the half-hip roof . A simple gable-roof covered portico leads into the house .

The listed building ensemble with its two corner towers is still largely preserved today. The former ring moat has been lost, only a retaining wall and a small pond in the northwest corner remain. The economic buildings of the castle form a three-wing complex from the 18th century with a passage. To the north is a walled garden ground floor with a plant house that dates from the Baroque period . The castle chapel from the Rococo period is located on the ground floor in the small rectangular wing on the southwest corner of the southern narrow side .
