Obermotzing Castle after an engraving by Michael Wening from 1721

The abandoned Obermotzing Castle was located in the district of the same name in the municipality of Aholfing in the Lower Bavarian district of Straubing-Bogen .

history

The von Rain gentlemen owned Obermotzing as early as the 14th century. 1376 bequeathed Leutwin of Rainer Rain of the Chapel of St. Peter in Straubing two courtyards to Obermotzing. In 1450, Rainer von Rain Obermotzing bought Heimeram from the Straubing citizen Hermann Zeller, along with his glory . From that time on, the Rainer owned the court rights of Obermotzing. In 1599 Obermotzing belonged to the Oberamt Alburg . After 1802, Obermotzing belonged to the Patrimonial Court First Class Rain until its dissolution and incorporation into the Straubing Regional Court in 1848. In 1975, the new municipality of Aholfing was formed from the municipalities of Aholfing, Niedermotzing and Obermotzing as part of the regional reform.

Appearance

According to the engraving by Michael Wening from 1721, Obermotzing was a simple two-story building with a striking portal, a sundial and two rows of dormers . A low wall with a through gate protected the complex. Outside a church can be seen, presumably today's branch church St. Georg.
