St. Stephen

St. Stephanus , also St. Stefan , is a Roman Catholic church consecrated in 1883 in the Aalen district of Wasseralfingen .

Building history

The increase in the population of the then independent, traditionally Catholic community of Wasseralfingen in the 19th century meant that the Stephanus chapel became too small. The Viennese cathedral builder Friedrich von Schmidt , commissioned by the parish, designed a neo-Gothic building. Because state subsidies were only granted if a local architect was awarded the contract, the parish had the Stuttgart court building director Felix von Berner revise the plans. His design for a neo-Romanesque basilica was carried out from 1881 to 1883. The interior of the church was furnished in the following decades. A winged altar and other works of art come from Sieger Köder , other works from the Wasseralfingen painter Helmut Schuster.

The tower is 56 meters high.

organ

An organ built in 1892 by the Link Brothers company , Giengen an der Brenz, as Opus 192a had 20  stops on 2  manuals and a pedal . In 1954, the Reiser company from Biberach built a new instrument (Opus 257) using some stops from the previous organ. The organ has an electro-pneumatic play and stop action ; the gaming table is arranged free-standing on the side of the gallery.
