history

A church was built around 1488 on a hill north of the now defunct castle complex of the wealthy von Wangenheim family , which was demolished in 1687 due to its structural condition. The two pointed arch windows on the east side with Gothic tracery of cloverleaf arches and the six pointed arch windows on the south side with renewed fish tracery as well as the stone eaves date from 1488. The foundation stone for the current church was laid on May 2, 1687, which is now on July 27, 1690 was inaugurated as a Holy Trinity Church by Duke Friedrich I. This is evidenced by a stone tablet on the south side of the church.

The tower was demolished in 1839 because of its damage and rebuilt. The church also experienced some changes that cost more than 4,500 Reichstaler. Count von Wangenheim contributed 1,500 thalers of this. The tower clock dates from 1852.

1982–1984 the tower and church roof received a new roofing.

Interior

Window cutout

As early as the 19th century, with the support of the von Wangenheim family, the gradual redesign of the interior began, initially the installation of the double galleries and in 1910/1911 the colored painting with biblical scenes. The stone ceiling paintings by the church painter and the colorful windows on the east side are from the same period. They were donated by the von Wangenheim and von Winterstein families and executed by the Ernst Kraus glass painter's workshop in Weimar.

A late Gothic crucifix from the pre-Reformation period was preserved in the parish, which was restored in 1988 for 6800 DM . The sandstone altar is also pre-Reformation. It has the typical carved consecration crosses on the altar plate, which were intended for the consecration of the altar for incense, and contained a reliquary.

The arched portal with the valley profile on the south side comes from a building activity in the 16th century. The arched wooden ceiling, the eastern gable triangle with the small round window and the door and windows on the north side of the nave date from the time of the new building (1688–1690) .

The wooden capital of the baptismal font in the middle of the chancel is from 1590, its base from the second half of the 17th century. The wooden pulpit on the east gable of the nave, which has an octagonal floor plan and the corners of which are decorated with candelabra-like columns with rosette decorations, also dates from the same era . The arched niches bear images of Christ , Moses and the four evangelists .

Some grave slabs of the Lords of Wangenheim are placed in the tower and in the anteroom of the church . The tomb of Baroness Christiane Hippolyta von Wangenheim is in the sacristy .

organ

In 1857 a new organ was installed by the Tambach organ builder Knaus for 1150 thalers . 1987–1988 an organ repair and the installation of new prospect pipes took place.

Outdoor area

To the west of the church, opposite its main entrance, is the rectory built in 1736. The church around the church, fenced in with a stone wall, was closed in November 1871. The bricks were built elsewhere. Today the area is designed like a park.
