St. Trinity Church (Großbreitenbach)
The Protestant St. Trinity Church is located in the state-approved resort of Großbreitenbach in the Ilm district in Thuringia . It belongs to the parish Großbreitenbach in the parish of Arnstadt-Ilmenau of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .
history
The municipality of Großbreitenbach owns the largest half-timbered church in Thuringia with around 1000 seats . It was built from 1679 as a replacement for the dilapidated St. John's Church, which was built in 1570 and collapsed except for the church tower in 1771, according to the construction plans of the Saxon-Gotha state master builder Andreas Rudolph and inaugurated in 1690. Großbreitenbach was then part of the Principality of Schwarzburg-Sondershausen . The remaining church tower of the Johanniskirche has served as a bell tower for the St. Trinity Church since then.
Building description
The complete ver schieferte church is considered a masterpiece of the Thuringian art of carpentry. A hexagonal roof turret sits on the steep roof of the wide nave. The interior is baroque in design and has two galleries with double rows of supports. A late Gothic altar and the color-glazed windows belong to the interior. The baptismal font is made of wood and dates from 1677. It was already in the old St. John's Church.
